About

These are the volumes of my Master’s thesis, developed at ABA UD. The project explores cartoon as a visual language, from the origins of American animation to its contemporary interpretations in graphic design, illustration, and new media. Through historical research and a visual atlas, it brings together artists, studios, and projects, connecting them through visual codes, aesthetics, and similarities.

The atlas aims to transform the digital experience of research and exploration into an editorial experience. Tags, page numbers, and connections create an open map that allows the reader to freely navigate the book, following their own interests and creating a different path each time.

The first section, focused on research and essays, takes inspiration from an editorial project by Giovanni Bonassi, while the book format is based on the proportions of an iPad and the pages follow the 4:5 format of Instagram posts. I gradually tried to reduce my own intervention, allowing the content of others to speak for itself while maintaining a connection with the digital world.
